Spectrum 004 took what’s described as quite a journey to get from grain to bottle, including:
Initially matured in an ex-bourbon barrel before it was transferred to a custom-built, unique barrel constructed out of four different varieties of oak.
The four varieties of oak include American oak with level three charring, French oak with slight toasting, Ex-Oloroso Sherry stave and Ex-Px Sherry stave.
This bottling is named after the Spectrum cask it was aged in.
Whisky, traditionally, is aged in a cask made of one type of oak wood, which lends flavor and complexities to the malt. Amrut’s whiskey makers looked to experiment with a cask with four different types of wood. This, however, presented what they say is a unique challenge, as each oak wood stave had different thickness and properties.
